Rope Access Technician - IRATA Level 3

Course Aims

Provide candidates with an advanced course in rope access allowing supervision of a wide range of work sites and to enable delegates to be a level 3 supervisor who is capable of site supervision for rope access work projects and be conversant with relevant work techniques and legislation

Who Is The Course Suitable For?

The IRATA Level 3 rope access course is an advanced course for candidates who already have an IRATA Level 2 certificate and possess the required work experience. 

The candidate must be an IRATA Level 2 technician with a minimum of 12 months and 1000 hours of work experience as a Level 2 rope access technician (verified by their IRATA logbook). It is required that technicians are fully competent in all IRATA Level 2 techniques and using these techniques regularly in their daily work, before an application is made for IRATA Level 3 training and assessment. 

It is also recommended that technicians gain an awareness of rope access rigging, rescue and rope access equipment used at IRATA Level 3 – this awareness should be gained through the workplace and/or by reading the IRATA International Code of Practice.

Course Objectives

On successful completion of this course a level 3 rope access technician shall:

  • be capable of site supervision for rope access work projects;
  • be conversant with relevant work techniques and legislation;
  • be able to demonstrate all the skills and knowledge required of levels 1 and 2;
  • have a comprehensive knowledge of advanced rescue techniques;
  • hold an appropriate current first aid certificate, to show that suitable emergency first aid training has been undertaken;
  • have knowledge of the IRATA certification scheme;
  • have knowledge of the IRATA Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme;
  • be familiar with the contents of the IRATA ICOP.

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom and practical work and is held over a 5 day period with full time attendance.
